We must have been good, because Santa Claus is coming to Benson Library! Bring the whole family for some Christmas fun.
Mr. Claus will visit with the children and read his favorite Christmas story, Chris Van Allsburg’s The Polar Express. Families will also decorate sugar cookies. Don’t forget your camera!
Saturday, December 7th
This is a free family program. Registration is not required; however, if you would like to decorate cookies, please visit the library or call 827-2913 to sign up. Registrations will be accepted through Wednesday, December 4th.
Meet Titusville’s favorite therapy dogs! Come to the library on Saturday to spend time with the PAWS 4 Reading dogs. Join us for games, prizes, balloons, photos with the dogs, and more!
Saturday, November 16th
at Benson Memorial Library
This program is free and open to children accompanied by an adult.
Join us for some free Halloween events for children and families. Here’s what we have planned for the last week in October:
Special Halloween Toddler Time
Tuesday, October 29th
Children and caregivers can come in costume for some spooky (but not too spooky) fun! Listen to stories, sing songs, and watch a special Halloween puppet show.
Wednesday, October 30th
3:30 to 4:30
Children ages 6 and up can come to the library to make Halloween crafts. A certified art teacher will also lead children in a fun, short lesson.
Trick-or-Treat at the Library
Thursday, October 31st
Anytime from 5:00-7:30
Stop by the library for a treat! If you have the time, stay for games, face painting, a craft, and more. We’ll be here an hour before Titusville trick-or-treat begins, so feel free to join us before you head off on your regular Halloween route.
Fall dates have been set for Paws 4 Reading!
Starting Tuesday, October 1st through November 12th, children may come into the library and read to one of our trained therapy dogs. It will be every Tuesday except Tuesday, October 29th. Readers can come anytime between 3:30-4:30. For more questions, please call the library at 827-2913.
Toddler Time is back at the library! The first session of our new year will be on Tuesday, August 27th at 11:15 a.m. Toddler Time will continue at 11:15 every Tuesday morning after that. This is a free library program designed for children ages 18 months to 4 years. At Toddler Time, your child will listen to stories and rhymes, sing songs, participate in movement and dance activities, watch puppet shows, and more! Toddler Time is meant to be fun for your family, but it will also help your child build crucial early literacy skills that will help him or her get a head start on learning to read. We hope to see you there!
Benson Memorial Library will be temporarily closed to the public from August 17 through August 24 for lighting replacement. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Due to the U.S. Department of Energy mandating that T12 fluorescent lamps be phased out of production after July 14, 2012 the library is replacing thirty-seven 8-foot light fixtures and replacing 134 ballasts and 364 light bulbs. The replacement of these inefficient bulbs will give the library an energy-efficient facelift, and give our patron’s a more welcoming experience at the library.
Through a generous donation from the John Nesbit Rees and Sarah Henne Rees Charitable Foundation we are able to move forward with this project. The continued support from the Titusville Lions and Lioness Club, the Titusville Moose Lodge, the Polish National Alliance and community members have aided in our efforts to provide quality service to our community. We are extremely grateful for the community support and are excited to see the final outcome. We encourage everyone to stop by after August 24 to see the new brightly lit building.
The library will reopen on Monday, August 25 with new hours in place. Starting August 25 we will be open to the public from 9:00 to 8:00. With the additional hour in the morning, patrons will have more opportunities to use all services of the library.
Congratulations to the winners of Benson Library’s first-ever Worm Races!
Grand Champion: Hudson Fratus
Second Place: Lauran Becker
Third Place: Lanie Bartley
We can hardly believe it, but Summer Reading is almost over. Don’t forget that our End of Summer Reading Ice Cream Party will be at 2:00 on Thursday, August 1st. We will have our Grand Prize Drawings and meet a special guest, so don’t miss out!
Starting on Monday, July 1st, families can register for two of our biggest summer reading events!
We will hold our first ever worm races on Wednesday, July 17th at 2:00. Participants must register in advance. Racers should be prepared to bring their own worms in a small container with plenty of dirt. The library will supply some worms, but we won’t have enough for everyone!
Erie Zoo Visits
On Thursday, July 18th the Erie Zoo will bring some burrowing animals to the library. There are two shows, one at 1:00 and another at 2:00. For the safety of the animals, the zoo visits are capped at 35 children each. Be sure to register early!
On Monday, June 10th, children came to the library to enjoy a snack and make cave paintings on the wall. Visit us later this week to check out their fantastic artwork!
Don’t forget that Steve Haberman will be performing a magic show at the library on Thursday, June 13th at 1:00. Families welcome! No registration required.
Summer Reading wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community! Benson Library would like to thank the following Titusville businesses for their generous donations:
Little Caesar’s Pizza
Summer Reading is right around the corner! Children ages 3-11 can start registering for “Dig Into Reading” on June 6th. Young adults ages 12-18 can participate in “Beneath the Surface” starting with a pizza party on June 12th. Check out our Summer Reading pages for more information!
